PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Freshman forward Desiree Bowen has been named to the 2015 American Athletic Conference All-Rookie team, marking her first career postseason award, the conference office announced Monday.
"I am very excited for Desiree," Head Coach Chris Pfau said. "She has worked very hard this season, and for a freshman to contribute the way she did in our conference speaks volumes of the talent she has."
Bowen finished her rookie campaign tied for the team lead in goals with four, and third on the squad in points with nine, despite logging just 351 minutes of action. Bowen appeared in 15 games for the Cougars, making one start.
The Suwanee, Ga., native scored the first goal of her career in the team's 4-0 victory over Incarnate Word on Sept. 4. Bowen would add goals against McNeese State on Sept. 11, and Louisiana on Sept. 20, to give her three goals over the four game stretch.
Bowen scored her fourth and final goal of the season in the team's 3-2 loss to UCF on Oct. 18, that saw a comeback bid for the Cougars fall just short. Bowen tied the game at two with just four minutes remaining in the first half. She would go on to finish the season with a .750 shots-on-goal percentage on 4-6 shooting.
"The great thing is Desiree is only a freshman, and she has incredible upswing. Her potential over next couple of years is going to be fun to watch," Pfau said. "I told her when the season ended that I want her to break every scoring, assist and points record at Houston, and I believe she will."
