Soccer Opens Conference Play with Win at Kansas State

Cougars notch first win over Wildcats with 3-0 victory
MANHATTAN, Kan. — The University of Houston Soccer team opened Big 12 Conference play with a 3-0 win over Kansas State at Buser Family Park on Friday evening.
Houston (5-1-3, 1-0 Big 12) launched 20 shots on the evening; its most in a Big 12 match.
The win marked the Cougars' first over Kansas State (5-1-3, 0-1 Big 12) along with the first goals scored in the series against the Wildcats.
Houston ended Kansas State's undefeated record and its three goals are the most allowed by the Wildcats this season.
The Cougars got on the board in the 14th minute from a long-range shot from sophomore Samira Minor.
Kansas State's goal in the 20th minute was wiped after a challenge when it was determined the ball was dislodged from junior goalkeeper Sierra McCluer's hands.
Houston added its second goal in the 68th minute when fifth year Laney Gonzales found fellow fifth year Ella Morgan for her first goal as a Cougar.
Senior Adelhia Ghonda quickly added on after senior Danielle Shannon found her in space in the 70th minute.
Despite 19 shots from Kansas State, the Cougar defense kept Kansas State out of the net with their sixth shutout of the season to tie for the Big 12 lead.
