Vogasari Named American Player of the Month

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Despoina Vogasari was named American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Month for October 2014, the league office announced today. The Athens, Greece native is a repeat winner after also taking the award in September.

Last month, Vogasari stormed through the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships in Waco, advancing from the No. 7 seed to win the singles championship. Vogasari defeated three nationally-ranked opponents and did not drop a set in six matches on her way to the Texas crown.

Vogasari was the only American Athletic Conference women's tennis player to win a USTA/ITA Regional Championship.

UP NEXT FOR THE COUGARS

By virtue of her Texas Regional title, Vogasari will compete in the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. The event runs from November 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., site of the US Open.
