HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The University of Houston soccer team, in the midst of a season-long four-game road trip, dropped a 2-0 road decision to Marshall Sunday, in Conference USA action on Sam Hood Field.
Houston (4-9-1, 0-5 C-USA) tallied six second-half shots, but it was not enough to halt the Cougars'seven-game slide. Marshall (4-9-1, 1-3-1 C-USA) halted a six-game skid of its own with the win.
Lauri Byrne (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll HS) and Christine Nieva (Mesquite, Texas/North Mesquite HS/Arizona State) each had a pair of shots for UH and the team's lone shots on goal.
Molly Snead notched the game winner for the Thundering Herd in the ninth minute. Snead dribbled through the UH defense and knocked home a shot from the left side.
The Herd were down a player for the final 16 minutes of the match after Sarah Burdick received her second yellow card and the subsequent red card in the 75th minute.
Kassie Hollman added an insurance goal in the 87th minute for Marshall.
The Cougars close out a four-game road swing next weekend against Tulsa and SMU. UH faces the Golden Hurricane Friday at 7 p.m. CDT before taking on the Mustangs at 1 p.m. Sunday.
