GARLAND - In conjunction with the 2006 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship in Garland, Kami Miller and Tiffany McLoughlin took time away from preparing for the upcoming championship Thursday afternoon to visit Bradfield Elementary School.
"These girls are given a tremendous opportunity to play college tennis and it's always nice to give back to the community," head coach John Severance said. "Kami and Tiffany had an amazing time today."
The student-athletes emphasized the importance of education to children, grades kindergarten through third grade. Miller and McLoughlin read books and participated in learning activities with the children.
The pair also taught the kids what it is like to make and obtain goals as well as what college life is all about.
"It is important for the children to see what they can become," said Mary Johnston, Bradfield Elementary Principal. "When the kids can visualize what it is like to succeed at their (student-athletes) age, then they are more likely to become determined. We are extremely thankful that they took the time to visit our school today."
The Cougars (19-4) take on East Carolina in the C-USA Quarterfinals Friday afternoon. First serve against the Pirates is on tap for 2pm. Live stats are available on UHCougars.com
