HOUSTON - Due to the lingering effects and evacuations of Hurricane Rita in the Lubbock area, the University of Houston tennis team will not participate at the Texas Tech Invitational this weekend.
The Cougars are looking to build from a 17-10 mark, and a fourth place finish at the Conference USA Tournament a season ago.
Head coach John Severance has been very impressed with practice up to this point in the fall season.
"I've been very pleased with practice," Severance said. "Singles play is further along than I expected, while doubles wise we just need to be tested. There are some things that you can't duplicate in practice."
Severance has also been pleased with his squad's fire this early in the season.
"There is a lot of competition out there each day," Severance said. "We're at the point where we're getting hungry to play some people other than ourselves."
With the cancellation of this tournament, and the Rice Fall Invitational last weekend, Severance is looking to add a fall date before the Cougar Fall Classic in late October.
