Tennis Receives No. 4 Seed In C-USA Tournament

HOUSTON - After turning in one of the best seasons in Houston Tennis history, the Cougars received the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Conference USA Women's Tennis Championships being held in Louisville, Ky., April 21-24.
Houston (15-8, 0-1) enters the tournament as the No. 74 team in the nation and will match up against the 13th-seeded Cincinnati Bearcats (4-14, 0-4) at 9 a.m., on Thursday.
The Cougars have been on a hot streak lately, winning five of their last seven matches including three straight this pass weekend against UTEP, 6-1; Sam Houston, 4-1; and Lamar, 5-1; to close out the regular season on a winning note.
Seniors Biljana Dimovska and Diana Martin have led the Cougars throughout the current campaign. Dimovska, who has been at the No. 1 slot all season, earned a 15-14 record in singles play. Her doubles play has been strong all season at 14-8, and when paired with teammate Yolandi Terblance, their record is 9-3.
Martin goes into her final conference tournament with a record of 14-11 on the year in singles play. In doubles play she has been even more impressive, with an overall record of 17-8.
Also playing exceptionally consistent for the Cougars has been junior Kami Miller, who eclipsed the 30-win mark against Tulsa and heads into the conference tournament with a 33-5 record in the 2004-05 campaign.
The Bearcats are led by San Antonio, Texas, native Jill Klauk. The junior finished the regular season with a 15-10 record in singles play.
Klauk's sister, Julie Klauck is also on the Cincinatti roster and when the two are paired together in doubles, they are the leading doubles team, with a record of 7-7 on the season.
Cincinnati, who has struggled this season, will look end the year on an up note at the conference tournament. The Bearcats come into the weekend having lost 12 of their last 14 matches.
The winner of the Houston-Cincinnati match up will face off against the winner of No. 5 DePaul and No. 12 Memphis on Friday, April 22, at 3 p.m.
