SMU scored two goals within the first 15 minutes of play and a third in the final seconds and never looked back as they held off the Houston offense for a 3-0 win on Sunday (Sept. 7) afternoon at Robertson Stadium.
In a very physical game from kick-off - which saw three yellow cards on both teams -- Andria Campbell made a straight shot past Houston goalie Sarah Webster, who notched a season-high five saves in the game, 14:19 into the game for the Mustangs' first score, and teammate Kim Harvey scored the second just 51 seconds later at 15:10.
Though down, 2-0, Houston continued to battle in the second half with 10 shots, including three from freshman Nicole Zygmontowicz. Teammates Nikki Hawkins and Sarah Fisher each recorded two shots on the afternoon.
SMU's Erin McCallum netted the third and final goal with just 35 seconds remaining to play.
With the loss, the Cougars season record now rests at 1-3-0. They travel to San Marcos, Texas, to take on Texas State University - San Marcos on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:00p.m. and return to Houston to participate in the College Cup at Meyer Park next Friday, Sept. 12 against the Georgia Bulldogs at 7:30p.m.
