Houston Tennis Splits Tough Weekend Against Ranked Opponents

New Orleans, Louisiana - This weekend Cougar tennis split two matches on the road loosing to #25 LSU by one game and defeating conference rival #37 Tulane by one. Both games scores were 4-3. The Cougars are now 2-0 in Conference-USA play and 5-2 on the season, already eclipsing their spring 2001 wins. In the past two weeks the Cougars have defeated one top 50 team (Tulane) and lost to two other top 30 programs by only one game.
Singles matches for the Cougars went very well. Sarah Borwell, Ranked #8 defeated Colosio of LSU 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 and Morris of Tulane 6-4, 6-1. This brings her to 7-0 in singles on the season. Borwell and partner Jen Baccarani teamed for another two wins in doubles defeating Colosio / Santilli of LSU 8-4 and Bergman / Cook of Tulane by the same score. The pair is also 7-0 on the season.
Playing in the #2 singles position Jen Baccarani split her matches this weekend. She defeated Botts of LSU 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 and was beat by Bergman of Tulane 6-1, 7-5. In the #3 singles spot. Analia Longoni also split her two matches. Longoni defeated Saaibi of Tulane in a three set come-back to solidify the win over Tulane for the Cougars.
Senior Jo Keene won her two matches of the weekend defeating Mang of LSU and Axsater of Tulane. The duo of Keene and Longoni teamed up for a win in doubles versus LSU defeating Mang and McIlhaney of LSU.
The Cougars will be back in action Sunday, February 17, 2002 against Conference opponent TCU at home.
