Dallas, Texas - SMU's Sasha Andrews collected game winning goal, with a header off a corner kick from Sarah Harvey with 14 seconds remaining in the game to give Houston it's first loss of the year on Friday evening at Westcott Field. With the loss Houston falls to 1-1-1.
The first half found Houston on the defense the majority of the time, but the Lady Mustangs had difficulty finding the back of the net guarded by goalkeeper Robin Cate, as the score was knotted, 0-0, going into halftime. In the second half, Houston came out strong with a steady wind behind the Cougars' back and went on an offensive attack. The game see-sawed until 78:52 as SMU's Sarah Harvey scored after slipping by a Houston defender after a pass from Jennifer Brickman, then going to the goal.
The Cougars pushed the ball to the Mustangs goal, where Lindsay Beiriger fired a shot beyond SMU goalkeeper Erin McLeod's reach to tie the game at 1-1 with 47 seconds left in the game. Houston felt confident that they would go into overtime. SMU's Sasha Andrews scooted past the Cougars to drop the game winning goal in with 14 seconds left.
Houston continues it's road trip at the University of North Texas on Sunday Sept. 9 at 1:00pm
