Houston, Texas - Nicole Aubuchon scored the first goal of the year and added an assist to the records, while the remaining Houston Cougars used their relentless defensive pressure to conquer the Rice Owls, 2-1, in only the second game of Rice soccer program history.
Senior, Laura Repp scored the game winning goal for Houston only seconds after the first to give the Cougars their first win of the season and first defeat of cross-town rival Rice. The assist on the second goal was by Lindsay Beiriger, her first of the year. Scoring for Rice was freshman, Kristen Lindsay and was lofted to her by Owl teammate, Ashley Anderson.
The game remained scoreless until the 64:00 minute mark when all three goals were scored in the next three minutes. The winning goalie for Houston is senior, Robin Cate (1-0-1).
"We felt good today," stated coach Bill Solberg. "The girls were coming off a 120 minute game on Sunday that could have ended more in our favor, to play our cross-town rival, our girls came out to compete!"
