PREVIEW: Soccer Hosts Iowa State on Thursday

HOUSTON — The University of Houston Soccer team welcomes Iowa State at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

The Cougars (5-1-3, 1-0 Big 12) look to stretch their winning and shutout streak to four games when they host Iowa State (4-3-2, 0-1 Big 12) for their first trip to Houston.

A win for Houston would also mark the first time the Cougars have won back-to-back Big 12 games since joining the conference and back-to-back conference games since 2021.

LAST TIME OUT
Houston opened Big 12 Conference play with a 3-0 win over Kansas State where they ended the Wildcats' undefeated record.

Sophomore Samira Minor, fifth year Ella Morgan and senior Adelhia Ghonda scored the goals for the Cougars. Houston logged 20 shots on the evening, marking a new best for shots in a Big 12 match in program history.

ABOUT THE COUGARS

The Cougars have allowed just five goals to non-conference opponents under Head Coach Ben Williams.
Houston returns 14 players from the 2025 season including three players that missed last season due to injuries.
Houston welcomes 15 newcomers including eight transfers and seven freshmen.
Fifth-years Ella Morgan and Morgan Donohue along with junior Casey Maddox were voted captains for the 2026 season. It is the second consecutive season Maddox has been voted a captain.
Junior Skylar Miller and sophomore Bailey Cate pace the Cougars with five goals on the season.
Eleven Cougars have scored a goal this season including four with multiple goals.
Houston goalkeepers have combined for six shutouts this season.
The Cougars are looking for their fourth straight shutout. Houston has never had back-to-back seasons with a four-game shutout streak and has only completed four straight shutouts twice before (1998 and 2025).
Houston leads the Big 12 in six different statistical categories including sixth in the country in goal differential.

ABOUT IOWA STATE

Iowa State enters Thursday's match with a 4-3-2 record and is 0-1 in conference play.
In their last match, the Cyclones lost to Colorado, 0-1 in Ames, Iowa.
Head Coach Matt Fannon is in his seventh season with the Cyclones and owns a 24-56-20 record at Iowa State.
Ten different players have recorded a goal for the Cyclones including three players with multiple goals.
Goalkeeper Eme McClenahan has recorded 27 saves on the season.
Iowa State has four shutouts on the season.

Friday's match marks the third meeting all-time between Houston and Iowa State.
