Tre Broussard Selected in Third Round of MLB Draft

Outfielder heads to Cleveland as Houston’s highest pick since 2021
HOUSTON – Houston Baseball standout outfielder Tre Broussard was taken in the third round with the 95th overall pick by the Cleveland Guardians to highlight day one of the MLB Draft Saturday.
Broussard is Houston Baseball's earliest draft pick since Robert Gasser was taken in the second round (71st overall) of the 2021 MLB Draft and the program's highest position player chosen since Jared Triolo at 72nd overall in the 2019 Draft. He's the first Cougar to be taken by Cleveland since Andrew Lantrip was selected by the club in 2016.
Broussard, an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection this season, was a significant contributor for the Cougars during his time in H-Town. He swiped 56 bases in his two-year tenure, tying for eighth on Houston's career list.
The Houston native led the team with a .344 batting average this season while also stealing 25 bases. His stolen bases tally ranked fourth in the league while his mark of 0.57 steals per game sat second in the conference. Broussard also hit .321 in Big 12 Conference play, a mark that also led the team.
Overall, Broussard finished his Houston career with a .315/.399/.464 slash while adding 10 homers, 57 RBIs and 72 runs. The speedster went 56-for-64 on stolen base attempts for a .875 success rate.
Houston has now had at least one draft pick in each of the last six drafts as well as 24 of the last 25. Broussard is Houston's 15th Top Three round pick and is the fourth Cougar position player to be taken in the first three rounds.
