Game Summary
The Cougars grabbed the first lead of the game as redshirt sophomore Xavier Perez picked up his team-leading 31st RBI of the season by driving home Cox in the opening frame. Houston added another in the second, capitalizing on a Rice miscue during a sacrifice bunt that allowed senior Antonelli Savattere to score.
Â
Rice tied the game in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs on three hits, but Houston answered in the fifth as Climie hit his fifth homer of the season to put the Cougars up 3-2.Â
Â
The Owls again tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and after a scoreless eighth, sent the game to a decisive ninth inning. After the first two Cougar batters were retired to start the final inning, Jackson sent the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence to put Houston up 4-3. Rice managed to get a pair of runners on base, but Roman shut the door to secure the victory.Â
