Goalkeeper Sierra McCluer earns second straight honor, Ella Morgan earns first
HOUSTON — University of Houston Soccer junior goalkeeper Sierra McCluer and fifth year defender Ella Morgan were named the Big 12 Goalkeeper and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday.
McCluer earns the honor for the second-straight week after recording her seventh shutout of the season and her third in a row. The Katy, Texas, native held the #15 Jayhawks out of the net for the program's first shutout of a ranked opponent in program history.
McCluer is the first player since Cami Koski in September 2013 to win conference player of the week in consecutive weeks.
Morgan earns her first Big 12 weekly honor after recording the game winner against #15 Kansas for Houston's first win over a ranked opponent since 2021. The Allen, Texas, native anchored the back line to help keep the clean sheet.
The duo are the first pair of Cougars selected for conference player of the week since Oct. 28, 2022 when Hailey Woodward was named the American Rookie of the Week and Emma Clarke was tabbed the American Defensive Player of the Week. Â Â Â
