
Marshall Jr. Sets Meet and Program Record, Men’s Squad Places Third at Big 12 Championship

Jamar Marshall Jr. breaks 14-year meet record to win 110-meter hurdles
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Jamar Marshall Jr. set a meet and program record in the 110-meter hurdles as the University of Houston men's track & field program placed third on Saturday at the Big 12 Championship at Rock Chalk Park.
Marshall Jr. won the first individual title of the afternoon by breaking the 14-year-old conference record (13.23) in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.13. In addition to the meet record, Marshall Jr. also set a new school record time in the event. This marks Houston's second Big 12 110-meter hurdles title and 12th-straight conference victory.
Senior John Adesola crossed the finish line in third place with a personal best and the third fastest time in program history at 13.35. Sophomore Jairius Burton (seventh, 13.98) and junior Anthony Trucks (eighth, 14.63) scored points in the event for the Cougars.
Sophomore Cayden Broadnax extended Houston's streak to nine consecutive conference titles in the men's 100-meter as he won his first individual Big 12 title with a personal best 10.15. Broadnax also earned a fourth-place finish in the men's 200-meter with a time of 20.82.
After earning third in the 110-meter hurdles, Adesola picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter with a personal best time of 10.20.
Broadnax helped the Cougars to second in the men's 4x100-meter relay alongside freshman Germain Smith-Mata, junior Ryan Mulholland and senior Brice Chabot with a season best time of 39.43.
Senior Trey East III set a personal best with a fourth-place finish in the men's 400-meter at 45.50, followed by sixth place in the men's 200-meter with a time of 20.97.
The men's 4x400-meter relay of freshman Damarien Jacobs, freshman Sahfi Reed, senior Adam Mason and freshman King Taylor earned bronze with a time of 3:05.29.
In the men's triple jump, graduate Caleb Malbrough posted a personal best mark of 15.39m for sixth place while senior Kevin Snyder recorded a season best 15.30m for seventh place.
Junior Kaycee McCoy and Ali Mack posted personal bests and combined for a total of six points in the women's 100-meter hurdles. McCoy finished fifth with a personal best time of 13.27 and moved up to sixth on Houston's all-time performance list. Mack earned seventh at 13.41.
BIG 12 RESULTS
Texas Tech won the Big 12 men's outdoor title with 136 points, followed by BYU in second at 100.66 points and Houston rounded out the top-three with 96 points.
The Red Raiders also won the women's title with 127 points. Houston posted a total of 16.33 points for 14th place, earning points in the shot put, 100-meter hurdles and pole vault.
