PREVIEW: Volleyball Starts Big 12 Conference Play at Kansas State, #9 Kansas

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The University of Houston Volleyball team begins its Big 12 Conference slate with a trip to Kansas for battles against Kansas State and #9 Kansas.

The Cougars officially start Big 12 play in the Little Apple against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, before heading to Lawrence, Kansas, to battle the Jayhawks at 6:30 p.m., Friday.

Graduate libero Kate Georgiades ranks fifth in the Big 12 Conference and second in the state of Texas with 4.29 digs per set.
Graduate setter Annie Cooke is moving up multiple program career record lists. She currently sits in third in service aces (127) and fourth in assists (3,394) all-time rankings.
Georgiades is also making moves on Houston record lists. She currently ranks fourth all-time in digs (1,966) and ninth in aces (98).
Freshman Lily Barron leads the Big 12 and ranks 23^rd in the country with 0.55 service aces per set. Barron tallied 12 across three matches last weekend, including six in a five-set match against Ole Miss. The mark against the Rebels tied her for third-most in a five-set match on Houston's record lists.
Among active players, Georgiades ranks third in Division I and first in the state of Texas and in the Big 12 in career digs with 2,193.
Rehr is nearing 650 career victories, sitting at 649 in his 25-year career which includes 108 with the Cougars, the third-most in program history. Last season, he became the fastest coach in program history to 100 wins at 141 matches.
The Cougars finished in a tie for fourth in the Big 12 last season with an 11-7 record in league play. The placement was second highest among newcomers to the league.
