Cougars in the Pros: July 2

Baseball fans are just weeks away from the Midsummer Classic with a multitude of Cougars playing some of their best baseball through the first half of the season, highlighted by Connor Wong making a strong case for an All-Star Game spot and Josh Ekness twirling a 0.00 ERA.

This is the second of a monthly summer series updating fans on Houston Cougars in affiliated baseball.

	John King		St. Louis Cardinals Major League (MLB)	King started the month of June with four-straight outings not allowing an earned run. The lefty reliever struck out 14 in the month over 13.1 innings pitched. 2024: 2-1, 27 app, 3.03 ERA, 29.2 IP, 26 K, 1.15 WHIP
	Jared Triolo		Pittsburgh Pirates Major League (MLB)	Started the month of June with a three-hit game at Toronto while starting the month with eight hits in the first nine games. 2024: .202/.278/.278, 4 HR, 24 RBI
	Austin Pruitt		Texas Rangers Major League (MLB)	Started a rehab assignment on June 28 with the ACL Rangers. 2024: 0-0, 4 app, 4.1 IP, 12.46 ERA
	Robert Gasser		Milwaukee Brewers Major League (MLB)	After a jaw-dropping first five starts, Gasser hit the IL on June 2 with a left flexor strain. 2024: 2-0, 2.57 ERA, 5 starts, 28.0 IP, 16 K, 1.04 WHIP
	Corey Julks		Chicago White Sox Major League (MLB)	Hitting .300 over the last seven games going 3 for 10 with a walk and two runs scored as an everyday player for the White Sox. 2024: .240/.315/.390, 24 hits, 3 HR, 7 RBI
	Nick Hernandez		Houston Astros Major League (MLB)	Was traded to the Houston Astros on June 4 and has pitched three times for his hometown team. 2024 (MLB): 0-0, 9.00 ERA, 6.0 IP, 7 K, 1.50 WHIP
	Connor Hollis		San Antonio Mission Double-A (AA)	Returned from the injured list on June 4 and promptly drove in two runs in a 1 for 5 day. Recorded 14 hits at Double-AA San Antonio in the month of June with a pair of three-hit games. 2024 (AA): .216/.274/.284, 1 HR, 22 RBI
	Logan Clayton		Hillsboro Hops High A (A+)	Made five starts in the month of June and struck out six at Everett in 4.2 innings. 2024: 1-6, 4.68 ERA, 10 starts, 59.2 IP, 43 K, 1.32 WHIP
	Jaycob Deese		Greensboro Grasshoppers High A (A+)	Allowed just one earned run in the month of June, pitching to a 0.77 ERA over 11.2 innings in his nine appearances out of the bullpen for Greensboro. 2024: 2-1, 6.58 ERA, 26.0 IP, 19 K, 1.73 WHIP
	Ben Sears		Quad Cities River Bandits High A (A+)	Struck out 11 over 15.0 innings with five saves in the month of June while holding opponents to a .214 average in his 10 June appearances. 2024: 0-3, 9 saves, 3.15 ERA, 34.1 IP, 26 K, 1.08 WHIP
	Zach Arnold		Jersey Shore Blue Claws High A (A+)	Recorded a pair of multi-hit games in June. 2024: .214/.306/.296, 2 HR, 21 RBI
	Josh Ekness		Beloit Sky Carp High A (A+)	Worked his ERA for the season below 1.00 after a perfect month of June where Ekness did not allow an earned run over 14.1 innings. The righty struck out 14 in nine outings out of the bullpen while allowing just five hits. 2024: 3-2, 0.99 ERA, 5 saves, 36.1 IP, 45 K, 0.88 WHIP
