Houston leaves Texas for third, final time in 2024
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Houston baseball team will leave the state of Texas for the third and final time this season as the Cougars prepare for their final Big 12 Conference road series of the year at Kansas Friday-Sunday.

THE MATCHUP
- The Houston-Kansas match-up dates back to 1958 with the Cougars winning the first meeting 7-6.
- This is the first meeting since 1998.
- Houston sprayed 14 hits around the ballpark in the 1998 meeting at Cougar Field. Five different Cougars had multiple hits while Alex Jackson tossed 5.2 scoreless relief innings with four strikeouts.
- Senior Anthony Tulimero began his career at Kansas starting 67 of 71 games while hitting .252 over two seasons with the Jayhawks (2020-21).
- This is the first three game series between Houston and Kansas.
QUICK HITTERS
- Freshman Ace Reese hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning Tuesday night in Houston's come from behind win over Nicholls. The three-RBI performance tied a career-high for the freshman.
- Second baseman Harold Coll hit the team's third grand slam of the season, tying Saturday's game against UCF at 4-4 in the 6th inning.
- Senior Cary Arbolida has hit multiple home runs in three different games this season (vs Texas, 4/12; 2x vs UT Arlington, 4/26 & 4/28).
- Arbolida is on a seven-game hitting streak in which he is hitting .462 with 12 hits, five home runs 11 RBI and seven runs scored.
- The Cougars scored five or more runs in 13 games in April and hit multiple home runs in 12 games during April.
- Left fielder Ace Reese recorded his first-career three-hit game at Texas A&M with two opposite field hits including an opposite field home run. Reese is now third among Big 12 Conference freshmen in homers (six).
- Coll's 3.32 WAR (wins above replacement) ranks sixth in the Big 12 and eighth among second basemen nationally. Coll's 3.32 WAR is second among Big 12 second basemen.
- The Cougars have scored 20+ runs in two games this year after beating Southern 25-0 on Wednesday. It marks the first time Houston has scored 20+ in multiple games in the same season.
- Houston hit more home runs in the month of April (37) than it did in both February and March combined (26). Houston averaged 2.18 home runs per game across 17 games in April compared to 0.96 in February and March, combined, across 16 games.
- Three different Cougars have hit 10+ home runs in 2024, marking the third-straight year a trio of Cougars have hit 10+ homers in the same season.
- Houston is on pace to hit more home runs then its opponents for the first time in a full season since 2019. The Cougars pitchers have given up just 36 home runs in 2024 while hitting 64 thus far.
- The Cougars pitching staff is on pace for the second-most strikeouts in a single season with 576 thanks to their 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings pace. The school record 605 was set in 2003 over 598.1 innings (9.1 strikeouts per nine) in which Houston played a school record 67 games.
- Freshman Anthony Avalos recorded his first-career hit on a pinch-hit two-run home run at #1 Texas A&M on Tuesday.
- Third baseman Anthony Tulimero is the first Cougar to eclipse 100 RBI in their Houston career since Ryan Hernandez (107) did so from 2020-22. Tulimero has 139 career RBI from his time at Houston and Kansas.
LAST TIME OUT
- Houston erased a five-run deficit by scoring five runs in the seventh inning to force extra innings before walking off McNeese via a wild pitch in the 10th inning.
