Cougars four-run second inning not enough against Bearcats
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Houston baseball team scored the first four runs of the game for the second consecutive day but fell 5-4 to Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon.
Houston (19-20, 5-15 Big 12) scored all four of their runs in the second inning on a pair of singles and a Bearcats error. Designated hitter Tre Jones drove in two of the runs and scored later in the inning on a single by shortstop Coby DeJesus.
Cincinnati (23-17, 9-8 Big 12) chipped away by scoring a run in the bottom of the first before scoring two in the sixth inning and singular runs in the seventh and eighth to tie the game and then take the lead.
DeJesus recorded multiple hits for the sixth-straight game and has increased his batting average seventy points since April 12 and is now hitting .349 to lead the team.
UP NEXT
Houston will look to salvage a game from the series in the finale at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
