Houston walks seven times in eighth, Wright twirls 6.0 scoreless
Houston (18-18) won the game in walk-off fashion on a wild pitch which allowed third baseman Anthony Tulimero to trot home.
Right-handed pitcher Dan Wright twirled a career-high 6.0 innings and with five strikeouts. Wright becomes the fourth Cougar this season to pitch 6.0 innings in an outing.
Second baseman Harold Coll drove in his 34th RBI of the season on a single in the first inning to open the scoring.
In the bottom of the second inning, designated hitter Conner Bennett slapped a double into the corner to score left fielder Cary Arbolida for Houston's second run of the game. Singles by center fielder Cameron Nickens and first baseman Justin Murray (bunt) drove in two more runs as Houston tacked on three runs on five hits, giving Wright a 4-0 cushion.
Houston Christian (13-22) managed four hits over the game with two coming in the first inning, one in the second, and one in the seventh with Wright setting down eight Huskies in a row at one point through the middle innings.
Houston took advantage of pitching inaccuracy in the bottom of the eighth with a three-RBI double off the bat of catcher Jonathan French. The Cougars scored six runs on one hit but walked seven times in the inning.
The Cougars have scored 10+ runs in five games this season and have recorded 10+ hits in eight out of their last nine games.
