Love’s near double-double not enough to defeat Bulldogs
ATHENS, Ga. – University of Houston Women's Basketball dropped a 61-47 battle against Georgia inside Stegeman Coliseum on Friday night.
Houston (0-2) was led by graduate guard Eylia Love's 17 points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Amiya Evans recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Georgia.
Georgia (2-0) opened the game on an 11-0 run before Love's bucket with 1:35 left in the opening quarter put the Cougars on the board. Houston could only muster four points in the opening frame with Love scoring both baskets.
The second quarter was different, as Houston outscored Georgia, 17-12. Redshirt sophomore guard Gigi Cooke ignited the scoring with six points heading into the media timeout. Georgia's scoring drought ended with a 3-pointer by Roxane Makolo, but the Cougars used a 10-2 run to get within six.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a hot start in the third quarter with a 10-2 run to lead by as many as 16 points. Love put the Cougars back into the game as she recorded nine of her 17 points on the night and cut down Houston's deficit to seven. Four late points by Georgia extended its lead into the final frame, 52-43
