Women's Golf in Second after First Day at Trinity Forest Invitational

Freshman Moa Svedenskiodld tied for third at 5-under 139 through first two rounds
DALLAS – The University of Houston Women's Golf program posted a pair of sub-par rounds on the first day of the Trinity Forest Invitational and stood in second with a score of 5-under 571on Monday evening.
The 43rd-ranked Cougars opened the tournament with a score of 283 and followed that with a total of 288 in the afternoon session on the 6,464-yard, par-72 course at Trinity Forest Golf Club. Host and 31st ranked SMU held the first-day lead at 564.
Freshman Moa Svedenskiold fired a pair of sub-par rounds (70-69) to finish third with a total of 5-under 139 following the first day.
Starting on No. 1, Svedenskiold battled through a bogey on her second hole of the day. After 11 straight pars, she made her first birdie of the day on No. 14 and enjoyed the team's low eagle of the day on the 514-yard 16th hole on the way to a 70.
In the afternoon, Svedenskiold enjoyed birdies on No. 2 and No. 7. After starting her back nine with birdie-bogey-birdie, the Halmstad, Sweden, native sank her last birdie of the day on No. 15.
Freshman Natalie Saint Germain enjoyed two rounds of par or better Monday as well and was tied for 14th at 143.. After opening with a 72 in the morning, the Prague native finished with a 71 in the Second Round, thanks to two birdies and 15 pars on her final 17 holes.
Junior Nicole Abelar and freshman Alexa Saldana were tied for 31st at 146. Super senior Annie Kim was tied for 36th at 147. Playing as an individual, super senior Becca Earl was tied for 48th at 149.
Tulane's Carla Bernat and UTSA's Camryn Carreon were tied atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under 137. SMU's Ellie Zeryk stood in fourth at 140.
South Florida and Incarnate Word were tied for third at 574 with Tulane (575), #35 Kent State (575), DBU (581), #42 Tulsa (581), Cal Poly (583) and UTSA (584) rounding out the Top 10.
The Final Round begins with an 8 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.

For Tuesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from SMU, South Florida and Incarnate Word
Svedenskiold will start the day off No. 1 at 8 a.m., Tuesday, with Saint Germain (No. 2), Abelar (No. 3), Saldana (No. 4) and Kim (second group off No. 5) following. Earl will compete in the first group off No. 5.
