Women’s Golf Tees Finishes First Round at Schooner Fall Classic

Emilia Campillo Martinez, Jackie Gonzalez Howard and Emilia Väistö posts 71s Saturday to lead Cougars
NORMAN, Okla. – Seniors Daniela Campillo Martinez and Jackie Gonzalez Howard and junior Emilia Väistö each posted 71s Saturday to lead the University of Houston Women's Golf program during the First Round of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club.
Väisto drained a team-high four birdies on the 6,182-yard, par-70 course while Campillo Martinez sank three and Gonzalez Howard added two to pace the Cougars in their second tournament of the fall season. Each were tied for 35th after the first 18 holes.
Senior Ellen Yates and sophomore Sadie Adams were tied for 67th at 74. Making her Houston debut and playing as an individual, sophomore Zoe McLean-Tattan stood in 92nd at 81.
TCU held the first-day lead at 270 to stand two strokes ahead of host Oklahoma. Iowa State was in third at 274 with Florida State (276), Oklahoma State (277) and Virginia Tech (277) completing the Top Five.
Haruhi Nakatani (Florida State) and Ellie Bushnell (Oklahoma State) were tied for the individual lead at 65. TCU teammates Kirstin Angosta, Ella Forss and Camille Min-Gaulter and Oklahoma teammates Audrey Rischer and Satonkan (Earn) Thiengsri were tied for third at 66.
The Second Round begins Sunday morning with the Final Round on Monday. Admission is free, and all fans are invited to attend.

Väistö begins the day in the first group off No, 12 with Gonzalez Howard (No. 13), Adams (first group off No. 14), Campillo Martinez (second group off No. 14) and Yates (second group off No. 15) following. McLean begins her Second Round in the first group off No. 15.
