Emilia Väisto Leads Women’s Golf with 68 for Second Straight Day

Junior ties for 18th to pace Cougars in second fall tournament of season
NORMAN, Okla. – University of Houston Women's Golf junior Emilia Väistö posted a 2-under 68 for the second straight day to lead the Cougars during the Final Round and finished the Schooner Fall Classic in a tie for 18th at 3-under 207 on Monday afternoon.
Väistö drained a team-best four birdies in the Final Round on the 6,182-yard, par-70 course at Belmar Golf Club. The Sienäjoki, Finland, native set a 54-hole career low, topping her previous best of 213 during The Ally (Oct. 21-23, 2024).
Starting her day off No. 12, Väisto quickly moved under par with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 14-15. After two pars, she added her third birdie at the 406-yard, par-4 18th hole.
Following four pars to open her first nine, she sank her final birdie of the day at No. 5 to collect the 11th Top-20 finish of her collegiate career but her first with the Cougars after transferring from Mercer a year ago.
As a team Houston lowered its score for the second straight day with a 283 and tied with Tulane for 11th with a three-day total of 853.
Senior Daniela Campillo Martinez tied for 43rd at 214 while senior Jackie Gonzalez Howard tied for 346th at 215. Sophomore Sadie Adams tied for 62nd at 219, and senior Ellen Yates tied for 72nd at 222. Making her Houston debut, sophomore Zoe McLean-Tattan finished 87th at 227.
Iowa State captured the team championship with a score of 810. Host Oklahoma finished second at 827 while Florida State (829), Virginia Tech (830) and TCU (832) rounded out the Top Five.
Iowa State's Alexandra Vidal Rivera claimed medalist honors with a score of 200 to finish one stroke ahead of teammate Emma Zheng and Oklahoma's Satonkan (Earn) Thiengsri. Haruhi Nakatani (Florida State) and Xin Yao Wang (Virginia Tech) tied for fourth at 203.
