
Boyd Records Double-Double in 86-53 Win Over Texas A&M-Commerce

Five Cougars post double-digit points against Lions
COMMERCE, Texas – Behind a double-double from graduate guard N'Yah Boyd, the University of Houston Women's Basketball program defeated Texas A&M Commerce, 86-53, for its first road win of the season at The Field House on Friday evening.
The Cougars (6-1, 0-0 Big 12) hauled in a season-high 63 rebounds, including 32 offensive boards against the Lions (5-4, 0-0 SLC). The Scarlet and White scored 31 points off those second-chance opportunities. Boyd registered a career-high 10 rebounds en route to her first career double-double.
Following a slow start that saw Houston trailing 7-6, Houston opened a 15-1 run spearheaded by Boyd, who had six points to push her past 1,000 career points. The Cougars held the Lions to just eight points in the opening frame.
Houston's defense stayed locked in the second quarter, holding Texas A&M-Commerce to a season-low five points in the quarter.
The Cougars combined for 33 points in the third quarter led by senior forward Djessira Diawara, who had eight points and seven rebounds, along with eight points from junior guard Maliyah Johnson.
For the first time this season, Houston did not commit a turnover in a quarter. Senior guard Laila Blair led the charge in the final frame with seven of her 11 points. Boyd pulled down her 10th rebound of the game in the final minute to secure the double-double.
NOTES
The Cougars return to Fertitta Center as they welcome Texas Southern at 11 a.m., Tuesday for Education Day.
Houston then will embark on a two-game road swing as it faces UTSA at 6 p.m., Thursday, followed by a trip to Pullman, Wash., to face Washington State on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. CT.
