Cougars Roll Through Vaqueros, 6-1

Houston set to open home slate at 10 a.m., Friday against Elon
WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program recorded its first win of the season with a 6-1 victory against UTRGV on Sunday afternoon at Baylor's Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
Houston (1-2) started the day off strong against the Vaqueros (0-2), taking the doubles point and picking up five singles wins.
To win the doubles point, Houston's Laura Slisane and Blanca Cortijo Parreno teamed up to defeat UTRGV's Marjorie Souza and Barbara Martinez, 6-2. On court one, Elena Trencheva and Sophie Schouten battled against UTRGV's Lea Karren and Daniela Rosenberger but the Cougars came out with the 7-6 victory.
Following the doubles point, Houston continued its success as it moved into singles with senior Azul Pedemonti earning the victory on court 4 defeating Yaiza Vazquez, 6-1, 6-2.
On court six, Cortijo Parreno made her singles season debut with a victory against UTRGV's Stefanie Wilske, 7-6 (0), 6-0.
Houston earned two additional doubles points with Slisane defeating Souza 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (8) and Schouten outscoring Rosenberger, 7-6 (5), 6-1.
In a tiebreaker, sophomore Maria Dzemeshkevich defeated UTRGV's Lea Karren on court one (7-6 (1), 4-6, 1-0 (8) to seal the victory for the Cougars.
UTRGV's lone point of the match came on court 2 with Bahr defeating Trencheva, 6-2, 7-6 (8).
The Cougars are now 13-0 all-time against the Vaqueros

The Cougars will return to Houston to open their home schedule with a three-match home slate at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility against Elon at 10 a.m., on Friday, Texas State at noon on Saturday and will close out the weekend against Louisiana Monroe at noon Sunday. Admission is free.
