
Onyeje connects on career-high five treys in 62-59 loss to UCF

Britney Onyeje scored a career-high five 3-pointers in the loss to the Knights
ORLANDO – Britney Onyeje's career-high five 3-pointers was not enough as the Houston women's basketball team lost to UCF 62-59 on Tuesday night in Addition Financial Arena.
Onyeje finished the game with 20 points including a career-high five treys. She led the Cougars (9-6, 2-1) in scoring while also adding three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Bria Patterson also contributed 11 points and four rebounds to go with two steals.
First Quarter
A defensive battle controlled the first quarter as the first points were not scored until seven minutes into the game. Fatou Diagne posted the Cougars' first two baskets before a 3-pointer from Laila Blair gave Houston a 7-5 lead. However, the Knights connected on a 3-pointer and closed the quarter ahead 14-12.
Second Quarter
A layup from Hill started the second quarter for the Cougars before Houston was held scoreless for eight minutes. A Britney Onyeje 3-pointer broke up UCF's scoring but, the quarter ended with the Knights ahead 29-17.
Third Quarter
Coming out of halftime, the Cougars found momentum scoring seven straight points including an Onyeje trey. But, a UCF 7-0 run gave the Knights a 14 point lead and the quarter closed with UCF ahead 43-28.
Fourth Quarter
The Cougars chipped away at UCF's lead complete with five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Onyeje boosted the Cougars with 12 straight points bringing the score within three at 54-51. A 3-pointer from Patterson tied the game at 54-54 and the Cougars took the lead immediately after on a trey from Blair at 57-54. But, UCF gained control and ultimately took a 62-59 win.
