Houston travels to face UCF and South Florida in final matches of 4-match road trip
HOUSTON – The University of Houston volleyball team has won three straight matches and four of its last five matches as it concludes its four-match road trip with a pair of matches at Orlando, Florida and Tampa, Florida on Friday and Sunday, respectively. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CST on Friday and Noon CST on Sunday.
The Cougars (13-3, 3-1 American) enter Friday's match against the American Athletic Conference leaders UCF (11-5, 4-0 American) looking to win their first match over the Golden Knights since 2017. Houston dominated the series in the 2000's and into 2011, but UCF has won four-straight and seven of the last eight meetings.
Houston ranks second in the AAC after four matches, tied with Cincinnati, Tulane and SMU with a 3-1 conference record. UCF is coming off a 5-set win over Wichita State, a team the Cougars swept in the first week of conference play.
Sophomore libero Kate Georgiades is coming off an AAC Honor Roll selection after she posted 5.38 digs/set last week against Tulane and Temple. Georgiades also posted a career-high five aces at Temple, including a run of three-straight aces.
Junior Abbie Jackson leads Houston in the offensive side of the game with 238 kills and 3.84 kills/set. Jackson is coming off a weekend of 30 total kills on a .272 clip with 4.29 kills/set over the pair of matches.
The Cougars lead the conference in aces so far this year, with 1.94 per set, which ranks 18th nationally. UH also has held its opponents to the lowest hitting percentage in the league, allowing just a .179 attacking percentage through 16 matches this year.
The University of Houston fall sports also lead the American Athletic Conference in total wins and winning percentage in 2021. UH has 26 total wins among football, volleyball and women's soccer and an .828 winning percentage.
