Deese dazzles as Cougars wrap fall season
HOUSTON – Team White struck for six runs in the fourth inning, securing a 6-4 victory to capture the annual Red-White Series on Sunday evening from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
The series finale capped a back-and-forth set. Team Red used a walk-off sacrifice fly to secure Thursday's opener before Team White battled back with a two-run walk-off home run in Friday's middle game.
Team White starter Jaycob Deese, who was second on the Cougars' staff in ERA and strikeouts a season ago, looked sharp in his start Sunday. The right-hander tossed 4.0 scoreless innings, limiting Team Red to one hit while fanning five.
Team Red leadoff batter Samuel Tormos finished a triple shy of the cycle. His single in the seventh helped spark a three-run frame. Ryan Hernandez added a bases-loaded single but the squad's rally came up short.
Team Red starter Dawson Smith tossed 3.1 innings, working around three hits alongside two runs and five strikeouts. Cameron Prayer contributed 1.2 scoreless frames. Jackson Dannelley used one pitch to induce a 5-4-3 double play.
Brandon Burckel contributed a two-run single as part of the big fourth inning and a 3-for-4 day. Tab Tracy added an opposite field RBI-single.
