Series evened up entering Sunday's finale
HOUSTON – Malachi Lott delivered a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh as Team White walked off Team Red, 4-3 in Game 2 of the Red-White Series on Friday night from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
The walk off was the second in as many days. On Thursday night, Team Red's Santiago Garcia plated the winning run on a sacrifice fly. The winner-take-all Game 3 is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT Sunday from Schroeder Park. Admission is free. Limited concession options available.
Team Red rallied for a pair of runs late, with shortstop Zach Arnold scoring the go-ahead run in the sixth. Arnold registered three hits including a pair of doubles. In the sixth, the Temecula, California, native reached on a single, stole second and came home on a pair of errors as the ball skipped into center and an errant throw allowed the shortstop to score.
For a second consecutive night, both starting pitchers impressed. Team White's Jose Torrealba went 4.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five. Team Red's Logan Clayton tossed 5.0 frames, allowing four hits, two runs while fanning nine.
Arnold laced a two-out double into the left center gap and scored on a pair of wild pitches to give Team Red a 1-0 lead in the first. He added his second double of the day in the fourth, swatting a two-out pitch from Torrealba into left center.
Team White's Alex Lopez laced a leadoff double into left center in the first and took third on a perfectly placed bunt from Brandon Burckel. On the third pitch of the frame, Rey Mendoza clocked an RBI-single into right field to even the contest at 1-1. Ian McMillan untied the contest, sending a two-out RBI single into left field for a 2-1 lead in the first.
Cameron Nickens tied the contest at five in the fifth, belting a ball into right center. The freshman, who clubbed a home run in Thursday's opener, raced for third, sliding in safely as the ball skipped into the dugout.
In the home half, Brandon Uhse dropped a leadoff double into shallow center. With one away, the speedy outfielder stole third. Clayton buckled down, however, striking out consecutive hitters to strand the go-ahead runner at third.
