Houston Touts Top JUCO Transfer Class

Cougars take home top spot per The JBB
HOUSTON – Houston Baseball's crop of incoming junior college transfers has been recognized as the nation's top class according to The JBB, the official home for junior college baseball, the publication announced Friday.

The Cougars bolstered their lineup with 15 JUCO transfers this fall included seven right-handed pitchers, four outfielders, two left-handed pitchers, one infielder and one catcher. The group is hails from six states: Texas (9), Missouri (2), California (1), Georgia (1), Nevada (1) and Rhode Island (1).

"This is an incredibly talented and deep class of junior college players," associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Terry Rooney told the website. "I think several arms have a chance to make an immediate impact. Offensively, there are some incredibly proven hitters who flourished last year in a shortened season."

South Carolina was recognized as the nation's No. 2 class, followed by (3) Florida Gulf Coast, (4) Cal State Northridge, (5) Miami (FL), (6) Arkansas, (7) Nebraska, (8) Louisiana, (9) Louisville and (10) Illinois. Wichita State was the only other American Athletic Conference program within the Top 25, checking in at No. 23.

Houston's class includes: sophomore Brandon Uhse, sophomore Josh Brown, sophomore Jacyob Deese, sophomore Ben Sears, sophomore Hayden Winters, sophomore Leyton Pinckney, sophomore Cameron Prayer, sophomore Blake Schultz, sophomore Adam Becker, redshirt sophomore Cole Turney, sophomore Brandon Pettinati, redshirt sophomore Maddux Miller, sophomore Dalton Roblin, sophomore Derek Abeln and redshirt freshman Santiago Jimenez.

The announcement comes one week after Houston's 2020 recruiting class was recognized at No. 22 nationally and tops in The American by Collegiate Baseball. In addition to 15 JUCO transfers, the class includes nine true freshmen and five Division I transfers.

Houston enters the 2021 season seeking its sixth conference title since 2014. The Cougars lead all AAC members in wins (84) and NCAA Tournament appearances (4) in that timeframe.
