Freshmen lift Team Red to 2-0 victory
HOUSTON – Houston freshman Skyler Trevino brought home two runs in the fourth inning and a pair of freshmen pitchers combined to toss six scoreless frames as Team Red evened the Red-White World Series with a 2-0 win on Saturday from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.
The victory forces a winner-take-all series finale Sunday at 6 p.m. Right-handed sophomore Ben Sears will take the ball for Team White against Team Red right-handed sophomore Jaycob Deese.
Red starter Dravin Barber, a right-handed freshman, tossed three shutout innings, permitting just one hit alongside five strikeouts without a walk. Fellow right freshman Patrick Dunn closed the door, allowing one hit while striking out two in the final three frames.
Freshman Dylan Post doubled to lead off the fourth before freshman Luke Almendarez walked to start the moment for Team Red. Trevino's infield chopper plated the pair when the Whitehouse, Texas, native beat the throw to first to stave off the double play.
Team White received a strong start from freshman Cameron Prayer. The southpaw permitted just one hit and fanned a pair while allowing three walks in as many innings.
