The Cougars improve to an 8-1 winning record at home
HOUSTON – The Houston Women's Tennis team topped the Miners in a mid-week matchup, 6-1. The Cougars have yet to drop an individual match in the past three matches, and completed their fifth sweep in three weeks.
In doubles, Phonexay Chitdara and Jovana Vukovic rolled through Vanessa Valdez and Milena Baigorria, 6-2. To clinch the doubles point, Sophie Gerits and Ndindi Ndunda beat Rina Nozaki and Erandi Martinez, 6-2.
Houston did not go easy on the Miners in singles, taking the first win on Court 3 where Vukovic didn't drop a game winning 6-0, 6-0. In her neighboring court, teammate and doubles partner Chitdara gave the Cougars their third point, beating Milena Baigorria 6-1, 6-1. The junior from Belgium
Freshman Stephanie Belovukovic also dismantled Rina Nozaki, 6-0, 6-1 on Court 6. Minutes later, Elena Tairyan closed out her match at Flight 4, 6-2, 6-2. The last two matches at Court 1 and 2 were the longest, eventually both getting the point for the Cougars. At Flight 2, Mimi Kendall-Woseley defeated Erandi Martinez, 6-3, 6-1. The last match was at Court 1, where Ndindi Ndunda dropped a tough match against Vanessa Valdez in a third set super-tiebreaker, 6-2, 4-6, 6-10.
