Houston picked second in preseason poll, garner three first-place votes
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- University of Houston Baseball pitchers Clay Aguilar and Lael Lockhart Jr. were tabbed to The American Athletic Conference Preseason Team, the league office announced Monday during the holiday break.
In addition, the Cougars were picked to finish second, garnering three first-place votes, in the preseason poll conducted by the league's head coaches.

• 2019 Don Sanders Cup All-Series Team
• Posted a 6-4 record with a 3.06 ERA across 16 appearances with 13 starts
• Recorded 73 strikeouts to 23 walks across 67.2 innings pitched
• Held opponents to a .244 batting average
• Co-led The American in pickoffs (4)
• Started season as the midweek starter before moving into Saturday role
• Picked up conference wins at Wichita State (April 13), vs. Cincinnati (April 19) and at USF (April 27)
• Also recorded wins in starts vs. Sam Houston State (March 26), and vs. UNLV (May 5) as well as out of the bullpen vs. UTSA (March 12)
• Recorded career-high nine strikeouts vs. No. 11 ECU (April 6)
• Part of pitching staff that led The American in ERA (3.82) and opponent batting average (.238)

• Recorded wins vs. Army (March 8), vs. No. 11 ECU (April 5), at Wichita State (April 12), vs. UNLV (May 4) and at UCF (May 16)
• Three scoreless outings
• Tossed 5.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts vs. Northwestern State (Feb. 17)
• Tossed 7.2 scoreless innings of four-hit ball vs. No. 11 ECU (April 5)
