
Davis Wins NBC Home Run Derby

Rising senior hit 23 home runs
WICHITA, Kan. -- University of Houston Baseball rising senior Joe Davis recently won the National Baseball Congress Home Run Derby at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
After hitting nine home runs in a three-minute span in the First Round, Davis tied two others with eight homers in the two-minute, Championship Round to force a 60-second swing off. In the tiebreaker, Davis homered six times to claim the crown.
In total, Davis hit 23 home runs in the competition.

With his victory, Davis became the second Cougar to win a home run derby in the summer. Teammate and rising sophomore Ron Brown won the West Coast League's Saltwater Splashdown back in July.
With the Cougars in 2018, Davis appeared and started in all 60 games between designated hitter and first base. The Austin native finished with a .318/.375/.554 slash en route to being named to the ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region First Team and American Athletic Conference Second Team.
For the season, Davis led The American in RBI (62). He also led Houston and finished fifth in the league in home runs (13) and sixth in doubles (18) in helping the Cougars to a conference regular-season title and an at-large bid to NCAA Regionals.
Davis is Houston's all-time career home run (35) and RBI (166) leader.
