Cougars wrap up play in Clearwater with a 36-23 overall record

CLEARWATER, Fla. --Â No. 18 Houston Baseball's tournament run came to an end on Friday when it fell 12-1 in seven innings to No. 15 ECU in the American Athletic Conference Championship in Clearwater, Fla.With the loss, the Cougars will now await their NCAA postseason fate with a 36-23 overall record. The NCAA Selection Show will air at 11 a.m. CT on Monday, May 28 on ESPNU.
HOUSTON HITS
- Houston played five games in four days in Clearwater, Fla. and won three straight elimination games to force a Game 7 Friday vs. ECU.
- Houston tied the American Conference tournament record with six home runs in 2018, tying its own record of six from last season.
- Houston scored 36 runs and tallied 46 hits in the five games in Clearwater, Fla.
- Joe Davis broke the RBI record in the conference tournament with 12 in five games.

Houston was held to just four hits, led by Tyler Bielamowicz's solo home run in the top of the first to open the game. Connor Hollis, Kyle Lovelace and Jared Triolo each tallied a hit.

Tyler Bielamowicz made just his second start of his career and went 2.1 innings, allowing seven runs on three hits and five walks. He would suffer the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year.
Hunter Edwards took over in the third and tied his career-long outing with 2.1 innings pitched. He allowed three earned runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout.
Dylan Lester went 1.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits with two walks with a strikeout.
KEY INNINGS
1st | Tyler Belamowicz led off the game with a solo home run to left field to put the Cougars ahead 1-0 in the top of the first.
ECU responded with a pair of hits and took advantage of a wild pitch to go ahead 2-1.
3rd |Â The Pirates plated five runs to take a 7-1 lead.
4th |Â ECU added two more runs to go up 9-1 in the fourth inning.
5th |Â With a pair of runs, ECU extended lead to 11-1 through five innings.
6th |Â One more run by ECU in the sixth sealed a 12-1 victory.
