Houston Wins at Southeastern Louisiana, 6-3

HAMMOND, La. -- No. 20 Houston Baseball went on the road to Southeastern Louisiana and earned a 6-3 win on Thursday to open the final stretch of the regular season.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 33-20 on the year, while the Lions fell to 35-20 on the season with the loss.

- Jared Triolo walked in the third inning to extend his on-base streak to 19 games.

Houston tallied 12 hits, out hitting Southeastern Louisiana, 12-7.
Leading the way offensively was Grayson Padgett, who had a three-hit day and drove in a pair of RBI with two doubles, while scoring twice. Lael Lockhart Jr. added two RBI, while Jared Triolo drove in a run. Joe Davis and Connor Hollis each had two hits and Tyler Bielamowicz reached three times and scored two runs.

Houston starter Trey Cumbie struck out eight and allowed just one earned run on five hits and three walks through 6.1 innings for the win, his sixth, to move to 6-3 on the season.
Sophomore Carter Henry took over with one out and runners at second and third in the seventh and held the Lions scoreless. He went on to toss 2.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
Senior Joey Pulido entered the game with two outs in the ninth and retired the only hitter he faced to earn his fifth save of the year.
KEY INNINGS
1st | Houston jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the Lions. Tyler Bielamowicz, who led off for the first time in his career, doubled down the right field line and took third on a fielding error. Grayson Padgett then plated Bielamowicz on an RBI-grounder.
3rd | The Cougars used a four-hit third inning to score three runs and extend their lead to 4-0. Grayson Padgett doubled, took third on a wild pitch before Jared Triolo walked and stole second. Lael Lockhart Jr. then drove in a pair, plating both Padgett and Triolo, on an RBI-single into right center for the 3-run advantage. The scoring continued when Cooper Coldiron plated Lockhart with a sac fly to center field.
4th | Southeastern Louisiana picked up its first hit and scored its first run in the fourth following an RBI-single.
5th | The Lions added to their score with an unearned run in the fifth to trim Houston's lead to 4-2.
9th | With two outs in the ninth, Tyler Bielamowicz worked a walk and Grayson Padgett doubles down the left field line, scoring Bielamowicz. Jared Triolo then followed up with an RBI-single into left center to put the Cougars ahead 6-2.
Southeastern Louisiana scored a run (6-3) in the bottom of the ninth, but the Cougars turned a crucial double play and stranded a runner in scoring position to cap the win.
ON DECK
The Cougars and Lions will wrap up their two-game series at 6 p.m. Friday in Hammond, La.
Following Friday's game, the Cougars will travel to Clearwater, Fla. to compete in the American Championship next week. Houston will play as the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 8 seed at 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday, May 22.
