Houston Sweeps Memphis

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball tallied 14 hits en route to a 9-3 win on Sunday to open American Athletic Conference play with a clean sweep of Memphis at Schroeder Park.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 16-8 on the year and 3-0 in league action, while notching their eighth straight victory. Memphis fell to 8-16 overall and 0-3 in American play.
HOUSTON HITS
- Jared Triolo has reached base in 23 straight games.
- Triolo tallied his fifth straight 2+ hit game with two more on Sunday.
- Triolo belted his second home run of the weekend and tallied a career-high four RBI en route to 8 RBI over the series.
- Landon Etzel belted his team-leading third home run of the year, a two-run shot in the sixth.

Jared Triolo stayed red hot at the plate, leading the Cougars with a career-high four RBI on two hits, highlighted by his second home run of the weekend. He went 2-for-4 with a run and four RBI and a walk.
Landon Etzel belted his third home run of the year, a two-run shot to finish 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Grayson Padgett had a three-hit day, going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Tyler Bielamowicz had two hits and an RBI and run scored.

Houston junior starter Ryan Randel went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in his sixth start of 2018.
Senior Joey Pulido took over in the fifth and held Memphis scoreless in his 3.1 innings of work out of the bullpen. He didn't surrender a hit and only allowed a walk with two strikeouts for the win, moving to 3-1 on the year.
Sophomore Lael Lockhart Jr. pitched the ninth inning and walked one.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | Houston jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second inning. Landon Etzel singled, stole second, moved to third on a bunt single by Cooper Coldiron to put runners at first and third with one out. Tyler Bielamowicz executed a perfect squeeze bunt to score Etzel and reach, while Grayson Padgett, came up big with two outs to plate Coldiron for the game's second run.
3rd | Memphis scores its first run of the weekend series in the third inning on a sacrifice fly.
Houston responds in strong fashion in the latter half of the inning when Jared Triolo belts his second home run of the weekend -- a three-run shot, scoring Joe Davis and Lael Lockhart Jr., who each singled, extending the Cougars' lead to 5-1.
4th | Houston added another run in the fourth on a Triolo RBI-single, scoring Davis, who opened the inning with a lead off double.
5th | Memphis opened the fifth inning with a lead off home run to left field and added a sacrifice fly later in the frame, trimming Houston's lead to 6-3.
6th | Lockhart doubled with one out and came around to score on a Landon Etzel two-run home run in the sixth to make it 8-3 Houston.
7th | The Cougars added to their lead (9-3) with another run in the seventh. Bielamowicz opened the inning with a walk, took second on a balk, moved to third on a sac bunt by Kyle Lovelace and came around to score on a Connor Hollis fielder's choice.
ON DECK
Houston will hit the road for the next five games, beginning with a midweek matchup at Rice on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars will then travel to Cincinnati to face off against the Bearcats in a three-game American Athletic Conference series, Thursday, March 29 -- Saturday, March 31.
