Houston Set for Weekend Conference Clashes

Cougars host No. 18/24 Memphis and Tulsa in third week of conference action
HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team returns home for a pair of weekend conference clashes with No. 18/24 Memphis and Tulsa at the Carl Lewis Complex.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Cougars will take a week off before heading to Florida for weekend matches against USF on Oct. 18 and UCF on Oct. 21.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS
The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- Houston is coming off an undefeated weekend of conference action with a 3-2 double-overtime win at ECU and 1-1 draw at Cincinnati.
- Rachel Estopare and Mia Brascia were both named to the American Athletic Conference honor roll for their performances this past weekend. Brascia was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week.
- Desiree Bowen leads Houston with 12 points this season off of six goals and is currently fourth all-time in goals scored at Houston.
- Brascia leads Houston in the assists category with a team-high seven this season. She is tied for first-place in the record books for single-season assists at Houston.
- Rachel Estopare and Samantha Cude split time in goal for Houston with 72 combined saves. Cougars have posted at least five saves in five of the last six contest.
- 11 Cougars have scored for Houston this season and Houston has scored in its last eight matches.
- Five of Houston's last six contest have gone into overtime, including its last three. Houston is averaging 95.7 minutes per game.
- Houston is 6-6-2 overall this season, 2-1-1 in conference play, and second-place in The American standings. Houston is also 4-1 at the Carl Lewis ComplexÂ
- Bowen is tied for fourth in The American with six goals for the season
- Jazmin Grant and Brascia lead the conference in shots through two weeks of conference action with 13 each.
- As a team Houston leads The American in shots with 72 total and second in goals with nine through four conference contests.
- The Cougars are second in points with 22 and saves with 20, also in conference play.
- Brascia leads The American in assists with seven and is ranked eighth nationally in the category.Â
- Memphis currently is 10-1-0 this season and 2-0 in conference action. The Tigers are riding an eight-game winning streak.
- Memphis is currently 18th in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and 24th in the TopDrawerSoccer Poll
- The Tigers are coming off of a bye week and are third in The American standings with six points.
- Memphis is in its 18th season under Head Coach Brooks Monaghan.
- The Tigers are led in scoring by Samantha Murphy with 16 points off of eight goals this season and Clarissa Larisey with 16 points off of seven goals and two assists.
- Elizabeth Moberg has played every minute in goal for Memphis with a 0.54 GAA, 19 saves, and nine shutouts.
- Memphis leads the all-time series with Houston 7-13-1 defeating Houston last season in a 2-1 in overtime.
- Tulsa is currently 5-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in The American, the Golden Hurricanes are coming off of a 1-2 loss to Cincinnati at home on Sept. 23.
- Tulsa is currently eighth in The American standings
- The Golden Hurricanes are led in scoring by Anna Williams with 15 points off of six goals and three assists.
- Mica Mackay is the primary goalkeeper for Tulsa with 45 saves and one shutout.
- Head Coach Kyle Cussen is in his 11th year at the helm of the Tulsa Soccer program
- Tulsa leads the all-time series with Houston 4-5-3, losing to the Cougars last season in a 3-1 decision.
- Houston is 1-1 against ranked opponents at home under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra, dropping a match to then-No. 13 UCF last season and defeating then-No. 21 Cincinnati.
