Cougars drop match to the ranked Tigers
HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team dropped a hard fought match to No. 18/24 Memphis in a 4-0 decision, Thursday afternoon at the Carl Lewis Complex..
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars will return home to the Carl Lewis Complex on Oct. 7 Houston to host Tulsa for Senior Day. First kick is slated for 1 p.m.
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS
The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fresh off of its sixth overtime match of the Houston came out aggressively, as did the Tigers. Both teams racked up three shots before the 13th minute of play.
- Memphis got on the board halfway through the first period, scoring inside the 22nd minute on a two vs. one situation inside the box.
- Houston had its chances throughout the opening frame with several headers that landed on either side of the goal.
- With time dwindling in the first half, a foul was called on the Cougars inside the box that would results in a Memphis penalty kick. With six seconds remaining, Memphis's Jessica Lisi would put Memphis up 2-0 at the break.
- Memphis continued scored twice more in the second frame, once in the 48th minute and once in the 65th minute.
- Houston posted eight shots, six in the first frame and two in the second.
- Rachel Estopare played 70 minutes in goal for the Cougars, picking up seven saves. Kate Godfrey made her first appearance of the season, posting three saves in 20 minutes.
- As a whole, the Cougar goalkeeping personnel posted a season-high 10 saves.
- The Cougars are now 6-7-2 this season, 2-2-1 in the American Athletic Conference and 4-2-0 at the Carl Lewis Complex
- Estopare is third all-time in saves at Houston with 198.
- The Cougars are now 1-2 against ranked opponents under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra
