DURHAM, N.C. â€" For the second straight week, Houston Baseball's Jake Scheiner was recognized for his strong play throughout the 2017 season, earning Third Team All-America honors by Baseball America, announced by the publication on Thursday.
The Third Team honor comes one week after being named a Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
The Santa Rosa, California native became the triple crown winner for the Cougars, leading Houston in batting average (.346), home runs (18) and RBI (64). He is coming off one of the best slugging years by a Cougar, tallying 18 home runs, which sits second all-time in a Houston single season.
He was honored as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, the American Championship Most Outstanding Player. Scheiner became just the third Cougar in program history to be tabbed Conference Player of the Year and first since 1990. He joins Southwest Conference Players of the Year Keith Darter (1990) and Rayner Noble (1983) on this exclusive list.
Scheiner joins Kevin Merrell (Second Team) of USF as the only two players on any of the three teams representing The American Athletic Conference.
