Cougars Fall 57-49 to Tulane

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team returned to Hofheinz Pavilion in a 57-49 loss to Tulane on Tuesday, inside Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars were led offensively by 15 points from senior Jacqueline Blake.
The Cougars fell behind early in the contest on a 9-4 run by Tulane to open the first quarter. However, Houston found success down low from Blake who scored 11 of the team's 21 first quarter points. The Cougars grabbed the lead and extended it to six with a 41 seconds remaining in the quarter. After a Kolby Morgan three for Tulane, freshman Angela Harris connected with a deep ball of her own at the buzzer to make the score 21-15 at the first break.
Both teams stayed hot from the field, with each squad shooting at least 40 percent. Led by eight points from freshman Jasmyne Harris in the quarter, Houston extended its lead to as much as nine early in the quarter. However, the Green Wave shot 50.0 percent from the field including 2-of-3 from downtown to cut the lead to 35-32 at the half.
Tulane's defense clamped down in the second half, holding the Cougars to just 16 percent shooting from the field. Kolby Morgan led the Green Wave with 11 points over the final 20 minutes as Tulane pulled away from the Cougars.

TURNING POINT
Late in the fourth quarter Houston cut the lead to six at 51-45 on a layup by junior Brianne Coffman. However, over the next 30 seconds Tulane buried a pair of 3-pointers to extend the lead to 57-45 and put the game out of reach.
TOP PERFORMERS
Houston: The Cougars were led offensively by Jacqueline Blake who matched her career high with 15 points. Jasmyne Harris added 14 of her own, while Serithia Hawkins led the team on the glass with 10 rebounds, her 14th career double-figure rebounding game.
Tulane: The Green Wave had a pair of players reach double figures. Kolby Morgan just missed a double-double with 25 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Harlyn Wyatt added 10 points and seven boards of her own.
UP NEXT FOR THE COUGARS
The Cougars head back out on the road for a matchup in North Carolina when they travel to East Carolina on Saturday. Tipoff against the Pirates is scheduled 3:30 p.m. CT.
