The Cougars would go on to shoot 52.6 (10-of-19) percent from the field in the first quarter including 50.0 (3-of-6) percent from beyond the arc, while protecting the ball and committing just one turnover throughout the first 10 minutes. After a mini-run for ECU put the Pirates on top, Houston answered with a 17-3 run to end the quarter and take a 24-13 lead into the first break.

The Cougars found their way to the free-throw line 18 times in the final period, making 16 to put the game out of reach, despite making just three shots in the final 10 minutes.
