Joe Davis Tabbed an All-American

TUCSON, Ariz. â€" Houston Baseball freshman slugger Joe Davis became the first Louisville Slugger All-American since 2006 as the rookie was tabbed a Third Team selection by Collegiate Baseball newspaper Thursday.
Davis earned All-America honors as a first baseman and was one of just three honored at that position on the Third Team. He joined LHP Anthony Kay of UConn as the only two representatives from the American Athletic Conference on any of the three All-America teams.

Davis enjoyed a banner freshman season where he was tabbed the American Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection.
Davis becomes the 23rd All-American in program history and first All-American by Collegiate Baseball since Brad Lincoln earned the honor in 2006. 2016 marks the second straight year a Cougar has been named an All-American with RHP Andrew Lantrip tabbed a Third Team selection by Perfect Game last season.
The Austin, Texas native hit .331 and led Houston in hits (79), doubles (17), home runs (14) and RBI (58).
He broke the all-time Houston freshman record in home runs with 14 and RBI with 58, while tying the record with 17 doubles.
Davis became the fifth Cougar in program history to hit two grand slams in his career and the third Cougar in history to hit two in one season.

- Hit first career grand slam in win over Rice and second vs. No. 11 Tulane
- Named American Rookie of the Year

- Named to the American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team
- Named to All-Silver Glove Series vs. Rice
- Was a five-time American Weekly Honor Roll honoree
- Named American Player of the Week (April 10)
- Named to College Classic All-Tournament Team
