Q: When did you start playing baseball?
JD: I have two sisters and one brother and they are all 10 years older than me. They all played. Ever since I can remember, I had a baseball glove in my hand. I started playing t-ball about four years old and when watching their games, I would always be bouncing a tennis ball around. I was just that kid that always had a ball, glove and bat in sight.
Q: Do you have any memorable baseball moments?
JD: I remember watching my sister play in the Women's College World Series and I loved the atmosphere and as far as myself, I won the Area Code Homerun Derby, which was a memorable moment in my career.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
JD: Not really, but once the season starts, let's say I have a good game ... whatever I did the previous game, I will continue to do.
Q: Why did you decide to attend the University of Houston?
JD: It was the right fit for me. My sister still lives here and it's close to home, so my family will all be able to come watch me play. It is a program on the rise and I want to help this team get to Omaha.
Q: What are a few words that describe yourself as a player?
JD: I'm intense, hard working and a leader that is very dedicated.
Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are a few things you would take?
JD: I would want to live there, so I would take a sleeping bag, fire starter and a fishing pole and I'd be set.
Q: If anyone could play you in a movie, who would you want it to be?
JD: A young Clint Eastwood.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of baseball?
JD: I love to hunt and fish. My brother and I are into restoring classic cars as well.
Q: Did you play other sports growing up?
JD: Yeah, I played football and threw shot put.
Q: Has anything surprised since you've been on campus?
JD: I'm a little surprised by how I have been able to manage my team with baseball and classes through the first month of school.
Q: What are you most excited about this season?
JD: I'm looking forward to being around all the guys, having a good season and hopefully being able to contribue to that.
