Second Half Rally Falls Short on Saturday
2/7/2015 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team showed the determination to rally in the second half, though their comeback was not enough in a 67-51 loss to Tulsa on Saturday at Hofheinz Pavilion. Alecia Smith led the Cougars with 14 points.
Houston trailed by 24 points midway through the second period but was able to slice the deficit to 14 thanks to a 10-0 run. Tulsa clamped down defensively, however, and held the Cougars off.
The Cougars hosted Dads & Daughters Date Day on Saturday afternoon, and the event added an extra dose of excitement to the Hofheinz atmosphere.
"I was happy to see as many fans as we had today for Dads & Daughters Date Day," said Houston Head Coach Ronald Hughey. "I have great appreciation for that; it's always a great cause. I just wish we would have played a better game, and I wanted to give back something to the fans. And I promise (that) next time, we will."
