HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team used a 13-0 first half run to hang with Memphis throughout the game, but in the end the Tigers came away with a 64-58 victory on Wednesday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
"I'm extremely proud of (my team), win or lose," said Houston Head Coach Ronald Hughey. "I always put my arm around them to rally them and make them the best person they can be. That's going to lead to wins."
Hofheinz was buzzing on Wednesday night as the Cougars celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day. It was also Coogs for the Cure Night, as Cougar fans had the opportunity to give generously to the fight against cancer.
"It's invaluable that you have women and girls be the best (people) they can be each and every day," said Hughey about the theme of the night. "Empowering them to do that is something that we really live for every day."
