Houston Baseball Spotlight: John King

John King, a junior, left-handed pitcher out of Missouri City, Texas, comes to Houston after a successful two seasons at Angelina College where he helped his team to the Regional finals in 2015.

Q: When did you start playing baseball?
JK: I started playing t-ball when I was four years old. My dad threw me out there and I never looked back.
Q: Who would you want to play you in a movie?
JK: Tim Robbins
Q: Do you have any favorite baseball memories?
JK: Hitting three homeruns off of my best friend in Little League, being able to play in the playoffs up to the fourth round in high school two consecutive years and also playing in the NJCAA Regional last season.
Q: What is your favorite road trip snack?
JK: Trail mix and any flavor of sunflower seeds.
Q: What would a former coach or teammate say about you in a few words?
JK: They would probably say I am hard working, always looking to improve, and poised.
Q: What makes the University of Houston the place for you?
JK: I grew up in Missouri City which is 30 minutes away from UH. I grew up watching Houston Cougar sports and now that I am a Cougar and can contribute positively to my school and team, which is a great feeling.
Q: Who is your favorite MLB player and why?
JK: Dallas Keuchel because he is a fellow lefty. He doesn't throw the hardest, but he can spot up with everything and he is really fun to watch.
Q: What are three things you would take on a deserted island?
JK: I would bring a generator, Satellite TV with NFL network and ROOT sports, and a George Foreman Grill.
Q: What are you most excited about this season?
JK: I'm just looking forward playing on our beautiful turf field with all of my teammates in a Division I game.
