Q: When did you start playing baseball?
NJ: I was about four or five years and I actually liked swining golf clubs. With that, my dad turned me into a baseball player.
Q: Have you always been a pitcher?
NJ: I actually started pitching my senior year in high school. The coaches thought I had a good arm from the outfield, so they wanted to see me on the mound. I came to UH my freshman year as a two-way player and left for a JUCO my sophomore year to develop as a pitcher because that is where our coaches felt I was most beneficial to the team.
Q: Do you have any favorite baseball memories?
NJ: I would say playing at Texas A&M my freshman year and beating them. High school baseball was always fun and playing in Regionals in JUCO last year was a ton of fun.
Q: What are the differences between JUCO and the University of Houston?
NJ: I'm definitely more mature as a player. I will also appreciate the facilities and the fact that we get gear and are able to workout in our own weight room.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
NJ: It honestly depends on if we won the game before. If we won, I will try and do the exact same routine again.
Q: What would a former coach or teammate say about you in a few words?
NJ: I would hope they would say I'm funny, energetic, a team player and always ready to work.
Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are some things you would take?
NJ: My dad because he would know what to do, a jar of peanut butter and a 24-pack of water.
Q: Do you have a favorite MLB player?
NJ: I would have to say Carlos Correa. He is Houston and I have to go with the hometown player.
Q: If you could play any other sport right now, what would it be?
NJ: Absolutely, basketball. I played growing up, but that career didn't last too long.
Q: What are you most excited about this season?
NJ: I'm looking forward to just helping the team win any way I can as we aim for Omaha.
